North Dakota Real Estate Requirements

Article Summary: Within this article, one can gain an understanding of what it takes to obtain a real estate salesperson license in the state of North Dakota. Further information below is provided related to the governing agency, education, examination, and continuing education.

The North Dakota Real Estate Commission, located in Bismarck, is responsible for protecting the consumer by licensing and regulation of all real estate agencies, brokers, broker associates, and sales agents.

The first pre qualifications to obtain a real estate license include being at least 18 years of age and at least a high school diploma or GED. North Dakota has educational mandates of 45 hours in pre-licensing courses that must be commission-approved.

Each Licensee must complete and submit the Criminal History Record Check Request form with a Salesperson License Application. The commission provides letters for approved applicants in order to schedule a time to take the state examination with Applied Measurement Professionals (AMP) with locations in Bismarck and Fargo. The passing score of the ND state exam is 75%.

North Dakota mandates all active licensees to carry errors and omission insurance with proof provided to the Commission office before the issuance of a license.

When it comes to continuing education, one needs a minimum of 9 hours of approved CE hours each renewal period. These can be taken on-line and by correspondence. The ND Real Estate Commission typically chooses a required course of up to 6 hours each CE cycle. A New Licensee salesperson is required to successfully complete 15 post license hours in courses of commission approved study. This is submitted to the Commission by the Licensees broker.
